Shirley Dettmar was born in Sydney sometime in the sixties and started dancing at the age of four - professionally at thirteen - until singing took over!
Trained in both contemporary and classical styles with distinguished teachers at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and in London, Shirley’s big voice is just as much at home with the powerful ballads of Barbara Streisand and the memorable show tunes of Lloyd-Webber, as with opera favourites like “Nessun
Dorma”.
Driven by a love for the musical stage, Shirley appeared in principal roles in “South Pacific”, “Kiss Me Kate”,
“Okalahoma”, Sweet Charity”, “Oliver”, “Gypsy”, “The Sound of Music”, and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”, and also toured Australia in “Camelot” with Richard Harris.
In forging her solo cabaret career, Shirley has toured the world for the last 4 years entertaining international audiences on cruise ships. These included P & O’S “Sea Princess”, “Sky Princess”, the ultra luxury “Seabourne Pride” and most recently the “Fair Princess.
Well known previously on the Sydney club scene for partnering David Gilchrist, Shirley is one vocalist that Sydney has now recaptured!
